My cats have always been like dogs. They greet me at the door. They follow me from room to room and are typically always with me. They're attached to me. And me to them, certainly.
However, Neyland went through a phase where she became extremely attached to me.
And I do mean EXTREMELY attached.
The first night I got her, I woke up to find her right beside me with her little body tucked under the covers and her little head on the pillow--just like me. Every night thereafter? She slept right beside me. Followed me everywhere. Needed to know what I was doing at all times. When I moved? She moved.
Then one night, I woke up to something unexpected.
Neyland had apparently decided that I officially belonged to her.
Because in the middle of the night…she peed on my head.
Now, before you bust out in either humor or horror 😄 — she wasn’t sick, angry, or acting out. She had simply entered that classic feline “this human is mine” mode and took it to new heights. (That, and yeah...I waited too long to get her spayed. LOL)
But I never got mad.
Was it ideal? Nope.
Was it hilarious in retrospect? Well, uhh...YES.
Because the truth is, Neyland was one of the most loving, loyal companions I’ve ever had. She followed routines with military precision, played fetch for hours, and genuinely wanted to be involved in every single part of my day. In fact, I had to add a second cat because Neyland wouldn't let me work throughout the day.
Add it all up and Neyland was one loyal pet, which apparently included officially claiming me as her territory.
The good news?
She outgrew it. (And getting her spayed pretty much ended it) And I’m still pretty sure I remained her property for the rest of her life.
